Reading Websites
When students click on the Level-Up hovercraft, they have a library of books to choose from on their INDEPENDENT LEVEL. This library of books includes hundreds of fiction and nonfiction texts. Students are welcome to choose any book to read. (Note - Traditionally, nonfiction texts are more difficult than fiction texts.)
When reading a book, students may start listening to the book by clicking on the headphones or they may read the book (and record their own reading) by clicking on the open book.

The student on the left is listening to a book read to him. The student on the right is reading the book himself and has the choice to record his own voice reading the book.
When students record their own reading and click on the up arrow, it sends the audio to me! Re-reading books and recording one's own reading helps build reading fluency.
Once students have read a book 2 times, they should take the comprehension quiz. If students need to reference the book while taking the assessment, they can click the GREEN open book in the corner to re-read the book.
Students earn stars for reading books and completing the comprehension assessments. Students may return to the Home screen to spend their stars at the Star Zone.
From my Teacher Dashboard, I am able to see what books students have read, how long they have spend in the STAR Zones, the skills that are most missed on quizzes, and number of books read!
This is our first year using RAZ-KIDS and we are excited by this resource. It will give your family access to hundreds of books, allow your student to practice reading with just-right books, and give you the ability (as a parent) to monitor your student's growth. As we explore this resource together, please let me know what questions and additional information you need!
